Located in Kalamazoo County

Local History

John G. Tarbell made the first land purchase here in 1839 and settled on it in 1841.  Osmond H. Gregory became the first postmaster on November 16, 1843.  

A station on the Michigan Central Railroad in 1882.  Named after its township which had been organized in 1838 and named for David Crockett and his comrades who "so heroically defended themselves at the famous castle of the Alamo" in the revolt of Texas from Mexico.
