Local HistoryCharles H. Beach became the first settler in 1854 and the place became known as Beach's Corners, on July 23, 1857, with Samuel B. Covey as its first postmaster. It was given a post office as Akron, named after its township, which had been named by Mrs. Jane Cook, after Akron, Ohio. A station on the Saginaw, Tuscola & Huron Railroad in 1882.
